Friday, April 18, 2008 - A Team Of Believers :

In 1966, Coach Don Haskins, formerly a respected but lil known female-basketball coach signed a contract with Texas Western (Miners) College to coach the boys basketball team. Shocking the world, he led the Miners to their first ever NCAA National Championship. From a team that was eliminated in the early stages during the previous seasons, the Miners shocked the all season undefeated favourites, Kentucky, to a glorifying championship. So glorious, the story goes down the road 42 years.

This is history. Some people say that this is the biggest upset in the history of sports, but i'd rather choose to see it as the strongest testimony of the power of the human spirit, when the minds, bodies and souls come together.

Humans always have a more pessimistic view when things are not going their way, or when they're not in the limelight, or when they're not deemed the best. Everything is possible and nothing is impossible (we always view it in the negative way), but how often do we use this theory with the positive outlook?

The more we use it, the more impossibles will happen.

I always thought it was only a few of us that believed, until the last training.

The idea of belief is not based on a single unit of faith, it can be a compound molecule that is strengthened and at the same time bonded with others. When 1 person believes in something, he influences another person into it. This goes into a chain of cycle, that eventually leads the whole gang into believing. Only when every1 in this team believes, it will then start working out. I'm glad it's happening.

As much as we talking about a team, a TEAM with no I, we often miss out the team that spells WE. The WE team is different from a non-I team. We is a collective noun just like a team, but WE carries the togetherness that a team lacks. There are so many team out there, but how many carries that WE?

A WE team is still just a WE team if we do not have a coach. A coach is like the I of the WE team. He is the one that calls the shot, he is the one that chooses whats best and whats not. Believe it or not, a coach needs to belong to the WE although he is often an I. This is the point of integration that really separates the real WE from the not so real WE.

The last training, the WE team is formed.

Coach said he believed, so did the rest every single one of them.

So in this WE team, we know that when we fall, it's not only the I that fall, its the WE that fall together. We're not alone.

And fear not, coz when we go out there and take on any other kentucky, it's WE that is(note that i used is) fighting, and not only with our body, but with another 2 vital weapon, the mind and soul.

If basketball was a guitar,

I rarely blog and i doubt anyone actually reads my blog. Today I can't help but pen down some thoughts that i have kept in my mind for months. There has always been this fire burning in me, but today it's been reignited 1000times, after reading danny's and johnny's blog.

New year, New School, New Coach. Everything seems to be unstable and nothing seems to be coming the right way. Injuries and and injuries coming our way, Gerrard out for nov/dec holidays, Daniel away for 1/2 of holidays, Fudge injuring himself playing games with noobies. Everything's out of control.

Well that was about 4.5months ago, team without a heart, without a dream.

I'm really proud to say we're a team and definitely dreaming :D And it's really up to us how we gonna fight and win all the way to national finals, then judgement day.

Something so special about my batch and daniel's batch. The last time we dreamt, realistically, we went all the way shocking half the world to be 3rd in the nation. That was like in year 2004. People say daniel's batch is a bunch of fighters, my batch a group of kids affected by hiroshima bomb's radioactive waves. Somehow when fighters meet mad people, they fight madly. And thats what we did. Perhaps we were kids in 2004, coach said we could win, so we blindly believed and then we won. I guess blind faith works with a lil bit of luck and lots of fight. Well, that was the case in 2004.

Now lets consider batch of Adiv '08. Still the same bunch of kids, just 4years older. A lil taller(for my case), a lot bigger, 10000times more experienced and definitely smarter. Daniel's batch shaped their fight from the kiddo "i close my eyes i run till i die" to the manly "i open my eyes wide i run till they die". ?!?! This makes sense. Then my batch kinda got crazier (alot crazier). Simon's like bulkier, radioactive effect caused his muscle tissue to grow shortly after his puberty ended. Johnny's like most cheerful boy of the decade now. Zhengfeng's madly in love (love can do wonderzxxx) Danny's the best pointguard in singapore. Charles' like back in action (just like how michael jordan retired for 2years, came back and won another championship!!). And ofcourse myself, back stronger than evaaaa.

Lets look at it this way, there are 19 schools playing in Adiv this year. Which team ever played bball together for 5/6years? Well, only us. So i doubt any1's got more love.

Despite all these facts, we're still considered the underdogs. There's always this fear in me, and now i rediscover that fear's just something empty in your mind that you've yet to discover, and its not our inadequacy, it's our power that's way beyond what we can imagine. So we're not underdogs anymore, we're just the mightdogs yet to be discovered till the day on 22nd may at toapayoh stadium.

Every end marks a new beginning. The end of pre-season marks the start of the season i've been awaiting. I won't dare say its a championship season, but i would dare say it's a good chance, the kinda feeling i've not felt for almost 3years. The kinda sizzling wizzly fuzzy firecracker sparkling in ur tummy whenever you think of it before you sleep kinda excitement. It's coming true. It's coming aliveeee. COME ON RAFFLES!
